Office180I work from a studio at the bottom of my garden. It is a log cabin 4x4 metres. It is wonderful to be able to work from home – no traffic jams to my office, no sweaty bodies on a long train journey to endure. More and more people are working from home. Business Link South East carried out a survey in August 2009, from which it emerged that over 325,000 businesses or 44% of all SME's in the South East are home based.

Below I have put together my top tips for designing a home office, as well as some information of how to feng shui your home office

Interlining ~ An expensive luxury or a necessary requirement?

KarenRainford DressingRoomsLogoAs the night draw in and the temperature drops, we begin to think about turning on that expensive heating to keep our homes warm. In the interests of the environment as well as economy, we are regularly encouraged to reduce our carbon footprint and make our homes more energy efficient and reduce heat loss, and one way to do this is to close our curtains and blinds.

Why does housing law have to be so complicated?

Hieroglyphs400 267"And why" some people say "When you ask a lawyer a question, why do they never answer it properly? The best they can often say is 'it depends'. What kind of an answer is that?"

The trouble is that law IS complicated. Why? Because we are complicated. We live such complicated lives, that our laws have to be complicated to cope with them.

Housing law is complicated too. Very complicated.

Enforcing tenancy agreements

Tenancy400 267We all know that a tenancy agreement is really important, but if one is there and signed, but one of the parities is not doing what is says - how can you enforce it?

The answer is "with some difficulty".

Generally you 'enforce' by pointing out to the tenant / landlord that they are in breach of the tenancy that they have signed.  Most people will then act accordingly, as in our society most people will honour agreements made by them.

Amazing Fabric

KarenRainford148You’ve had that extension built, or been renovating that house, the dust is finally settling, albeit slowly, and you can now turn to think about the nice things that turn that house into your home. The decoration and the curtains and the soft furnishings!  One of favourite parts of my job is to visit a new client with all my fabric sample books and ‘play’! Looking at all the fabrics, the holding up different colours and chatting about styles of curtains to come up with the design that suits you and your home best.
